Citing data from different countries, Information Minister Dr. Hassan Mahmood has justified the strictness of the Digital Security Act of Bangladesh. He said, "The punishment prescribed in chapter VI of this Act in our country is in Chapter 11 of the Information Technology Act of India and section 18 of the Protection of Electronic Crimes Act of Pakistan. There are also laws such as the Computer Fraud and Abuse Act in the United States, the Computer Abuse Act in the UNITED Kingdom, the Electronic Transaction Act in Nepal, the Federal Criminal Act of 2012 on Combating Cybercrimes in the United Arab Emirates, the Network Enforcement Act 2017 in Germany, the Cybercrime Laws Amendment Act 2012 in Australia, the Cyber Security Act 2018 in Singapore. In developed countries too, arrests and punishments are prescribed for such criminals acts. But of course, I, like you, are in favour of being careful about not to misuse this law." He also urged reporters at the Secretariat on Monday (March 1) to be careful while enforcing the law, which was discussed in response to questions from reporters.
